GLENDALE, CO – World Rugby today announced approved amendments to the international athlete Transgender Policy, banning transgender women from competing in World Rugby Women’s competitions. USA Rugby does not support this conclusion, where the USA Rugby policy remains unaffected. Transgender athletes will continue to be able to compete in women’s competitions domestically in the United States.

The USA Rugby Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee will continue to address this matter with transgender athletes and community stakeholders consulted during the feedback phase. USA Rugby is committed to a domestic policy reflecting our values of inclusivity. Information on those activities will be communicated in due time. USA Rugby will be a leader in providing ongoing scientific resources to allow World Rugby to evolve on its position.

USA Rugby continues to recognize transgender athletes and every diverse member represented across the rugby community, where driving the value of inclusivity will remain paramount. Rugby is, and will continue to be, a sport for all in the United States.
