Rugby sevens is a thrilling, fast-paced format of the sport, featuring teams of seven players competing in matches of two seven-minute halves on a full-sized rugby pitch. The game demands exceptional fitness, skill, speed and stamina making it one of the most exciting spectacles in world sport. HSBC SVNS has served as a launchpad for global rugby stars including Jonah Lomu, Perry Baker and Ilona Maher, showcasing their talents in iconic host cities across the globe including Dubai, São Paulo, Singapore and Cape Town.
USA Women’s Eagle and New Yorker, Su Adegoke shared her excitement about the news: “I’m speechless! New York and sevens are the same… fast paced, intense, and everyone brings their own style. As a NYC native, getting to see this happen feels unreal. I would have never seen this coming. My dream was to make it onto an SVNS Series stop, and now the SVNS Series stop is coming to me. Fans should be excited to experience the city that never sleeps. The late-night chopped cheese, street and subway performers, pizza, Times Square, the nightlife, and especially the bodegas!”
With star power, gender equity and global representation to the fore, across the season the world’s top eight men’s and women’s teams will showcase the skill, speed, and intensity of Rugby’s Olympic discipline, featuring the fittest and fastest rugby athletes on the planet.
