LAFAYETTE, CO. - Behind every Eagle is a philanthropic community with visionary hope for medals in the 2020 Olympics. The American Club Hong Kong is among this philanthropic community striving to make a real difference for TEAM USA.
The American Club Hong Kong is a premier Club in Hong Kong that provides a gathering place for social, recreational, and business activities for members and their families. Beyond the Club's commitment to world-class services, it also has a commitment to giving back.
There has been a longstanding partnership between the American Club Hong Kong and USA Rugby. "The Club and its members have tremendously impacted the work at USA Rugby helping to advance the Olympic Sevens Program to the next level,' Says Chris Reed, USA Rugby Chief Development Officer.
Kevin Tranbarger, President of the The American Club Hong Kong, explained how members of the Club - himself included - are always thrilled to see the United States competing on the international stage.
Once the Club learned that USA Rugby relies heavily on philanthropic support - it jumped into action.
"You hear what the National Team is running low in terms of financial resources for what they actually need to compete. And you think, WOW there is still a lot of need there' Tranbarger says. "It is then that you realize that you and your club can make a real difference.'
And a difference they are making.
For many years, the American Club has made several initiatives to raise philanthropic gifts in support of the Men's Sevens Team. One of the more successful fundraising events has been their annual dinner prior to the Hong Kong Sevens Tournament, where individuals purchase a table and partake in live and silent auctions, all while in the company of the USA Rugby athletes and coaching staff.
"Great items were being auctioned; we even offered supplementary wine for an added donation. And Michael Roy of the Golden Eagles donor group, our emcee of the night, truly helped get people excited to support USA Rugby' Tranbarger said.
Tranbarger reported that they have hosted this fundraiser a few times and in 2018 they were able to raise 30% more funds than the year before. The Club also found success in selling USA Rugby gear while televising the Series tournaments at their various locations and delivering the proceeds directly to USA Rugby.
"Everyone here loves the 7s; they get really excited about it. So our Club plans to continue to support the National Team and do everything we can to help the Eagles get a medal in Tokyo' Tranbarger concluded.
The American Club Hong Kong has found many creative ways to support the Eagles. To learn how you or your club can make an impact, please contact us at donate@usa.rugby or make a direct contribution HERE.
