South Recap: Regular Season Winds Down

Women’s Division II

Carolinas/Georgia

On the back of tries from Jasmine Griffin (2), Alyson Egan, Athene Meekma, and LeeAnn Hyman, the Eno River Rage shut out the Augusta Furies 33 to 0.

Florida
Fort Miami Rugby hosted the Tampa Bay Krewe Saturday, where the home club avenged its March 16 loss. All the game's points came from two players, Tricia Suriano gave the home team 17 points and Narcisse Jordan scored Tampa Bay’s lone try.  Fort Miami winning, 17-5. 

True South
With tries from Haley Forman, Regina Durkan, Elizabeth Terry-Emert, Meegan Buchanan, Amigail Hogan, and Britney Heatherly, the Knoxville Minx 36 defeated the Nashville Stone Lions 7.  Anastasia Sharp scored Nashville’s only try

Wrapping up the Women’s weekend review, the Memphis Flamingos defeated the Louisiana Lagniappe 14 to 0. 

Men’s Division II

Carolinas/Georgia

Southern Pines Rugby narrowly edged Charlotte Rugby Saturday in a 29 to 26 decision.  Try scorers for Southern Pines included Zach Miller, Christopher Skinner, Gareth Galloway, and Corey Jones.  John Maxim Bennett led Charlotte's losing effort (two tries), with Brandon Smith and Ethan Suznevich each contributing one try.

Florida
In Florida’s one Saturday matchup, the Miami Tridents rallied from a 19 to 10 halftime deficit to beat the Boca Raton Buccaneers 24 to 19.  All three tries, from David Roddy, Michael Szymanski, and Adam Freeman scored one try each for Boca Raton.  Miami’s Keiffer Scott earned a first half try for the Tridents, with Jordan Hinojosa and German Jalil adding Trident tries after halftime.

True South
In the True South Saturday afternoon, the Baton Rouge played host to the Birmingham Vulcans.  The home team earned a 45 to 29 beating of the boys from Birmingham.

Men’s Division-III

Carolinas/Georgia
The Clayton Bootleggers built upon their 24 to 10 halftime lead to beat Cape Fear Rugby 53 to 31.  Gareth Davies led Clayton with three tries, followed by Austin Lyons with two.  Brian Beauregard and Johnathan Diaz also scored tries for Clayton.

Even though High Country only led the Atlanta Renegades Division III side 15 to 14 at the half, High Country rolled all over the Renegades in the second half, giving the home team a decisive 41 to 19 defeat of Atlanta.

Florida
The Palm Beach Panthers rolled all over the Indian River Raptors, shutting out their northern neighbors 91 to 0.  Lukem Beaumont led Palm beach with six tries.

Moving on toward Florida’s west coast, the St. Petersburg Pelicans finished off its regular season with a 33 to 16 victory over the Tampa Bay Krewe.  Colby Carinhas and Jon Greaves scored the two Krewe tries.

Wrapping up Florida’s, and the Southern’s, rugby weekend, the Gainesville Hogs 45 defeated the Daytona Beach Coconuts 45 to 17.  Jester Momnu scored two of Daytona’s three tries, with James Brown earning the Coconut’s third try.
