CHULA VISTA, CA. - Following the release of the Canada Sevens roster, Head Coach Richie Walker has announced that Kristen Thomas sustained an injury during training this morning and will no longer travel to Langford. The athlete made her season debut last month at Kitakyushu Sevens, scoring two tries and helping the Eagles win the Challenge Trophy.
Sarah Buonopane, listed as a non-traveling reserve on the original roster, will suit up in Thomas' stead for the competition set to begin this Sat, May 12. Buonopane has been a prominent member of the Women's Sevens' squad through the 2017-18 series, joining her teammates for all three stops this season.
Updates regarding Thomas' injury and timeline for recovery will be released in due course.
The United States travels to Langford tomorrow (Thu, May 10) for Canada Sevens, with matches against Russia, France and Japan set for Day One. Canada Sevens will run from May 12-13 in Langford, B.C. with games broadcast LIVE on The Rugby Channel and updates available by following @USARugby on Twitter.
