The 2023 National Championships will hand out five total titles as the top clubs across Men’s and Women’s divisions will bring the 2022-23 Senior Club fifteen’s competition calendar to a close. Sixteen of the qualified teams won their division’s respective Super Regional titles over the past month, earning a spot in St. Charles. Advancing from the Atlantic, Gulf Coast, Pacific and Southern regions, the slate brings some new and returning club names to the championship bracket.

Senior Club Representative to the USA Rugby Board, Rick Humm noted, “A number of close Super Regional matches over these past few weeks, displaying high impact and quality play across the board. It’s another exciting summer as we expect to see that continue into the National Finals this weekend.”

The 2022 national championships were held at Silverbacks Park in Atlanta after a two-year hiatus, bringing the best of the best in club rugby back together. Out of the 20 teams who competed in Atlanta, four have continued on and qualified for a second straight year. Women’s D1 powerhouse NOVA (Northern Virginia) will look to three-peat as national champion after cruising to another Atlantic Regional title in April.

Knoxville Women’s Rugby Club will also make an appearance at Nationals in the D2 bracket after repeating as Gulf Coast Regional champions. Knoxville fell in the 2022 title game to Providence Women’s Rugby (RI), who moved up to D1 for the 2022-23 season.

Returning national runner-up Denver Barbarians will again represent the Northern Regional in Men’s D2. The Barbarians are the only returning team from the 2022 national championship finals (champions and runners-up) in any of the three men’s divisions, bringing a new level of competition to the National’s stage.

Also returning for the 2023 national championships are Chicago Griffins on the Men’s D1 bracket. Griffins fell to the eventual national champion squad in the opening round of the 2022 championships.

The 2023 USA Club Rugby XVs National Championships kick off June 2-4, streaming LIVE on USA Club Rugby YouTube.
