  • USA Rugby Training & Education are soon to launch an all-new Learning Management System (LMS), named the USA Rugby Learning Center.
  • The updated and more efficient LMS is slated for a late-November launch where USA Rugby Members can access through their USA Rugby Member profile in SportLomo.
  • Beyond the traditional certification and education offerings, the USA Rugby Learning Center will also provide access to webinars previously produced for the National Development Virtual Series, as well as video libraries featuring players and coaches from USA Rugby National Teams and High Performance.

GLENDALE, CO (Thursday, November 11, 2021) - USA Rugby Training & Education is preparing to launch an all-new Learning Management System (LMS) which will provide more access and opportunity for online learning, allowing members to take control of their own training and education progress.

Aptly named the USA Rugby Learning Center, the new LMS is provided by Docebo, an industry leader in online learning management and will provide a bridge between World Rugby’s own online courses, face-to-face offerings from USA Rugby and new online courses specifically developed this year. Docebo will use a single sign-on process through USA Rugby Member profiles in SportLomo, meaning users won’t require another username or password, they will use their existing USA Rugby Member profile login to access the LMS.

“With this implementation we are aiming to directly improve efficiencies and the user experience of online learning for the rugby community,” said USA Rugby Director of Training & Education, Jamie McGregor, “In the past, members may have completed a course, sent material away to their instructor, but never had visibility over your progress. The upcoming LMS and Docebo allow for individuals to see their progress clearly and know your status.”

Beyond the traditional certification and education offerings, the USA Rugby Learning Center will also provide access to webinars previously produced for the National Development Virtual Series, as well as video libraries featuring players and coaches from USA Rugby National Teams and High Performance. The LMS will also feature new online courses specifically created for USA Rugby: including a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion course and Assistant Referee Course. Both courses feature user interaction and learning beyond the capabilities of previous online offerings USA Rugby has provided. Plans are in place for an Administration Course to follow.

There will be several changes to Training & Education policies coinciding with the launch of the LMS that all coaches, referees, clubs, colleges and schools should be aware of:

  • Background Screening and SafeSport will be together referred to as “Off-Field Safety Basics” and will continue to be managed through the SportLomo member registration system. This will continue to be a prerequisite for all coaching and officiating certification.
  • L100 Coach certification will be replaced by a new certification titled “Rugby’s Safety Basics” and will consist of World Rugby’s Rugby Ready and Concussion online courses. This will be a prerequisite for all coaching and officiating certification, and compulsory for non-contact coaches.
  • The naming convention previously utilized for coaching courses (L200/L300/L400) will cease, replaced with the World Rugby naming system Level 1 Coach, Level 2 Coach and Level 3 Coach. This brings coaching in line with the naming convention used around the world in coaching, and already used in officiating within USA Rugby.
  • Two trial courses delivered virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic will continue to be offered on a regular basis via Zoom conference. Introduction to Coaching and Introduction to Refereeing are both 3.5 hour introductory courses for players, parents or spectators at any level to begin their coaching or refereeing journey. The courses allow participants to act as an assistant coach under a Level 1 Coach for a year, as well as referee non-contact or B-side matches under the supervision of a Level 1 Referee for a year.
  • In order to have the individual take control of their learning, course registration must be done by the participant concerned, accessed through their USA Rugby Member profile on SportLomo. A participant will not be able to be registered to a course by a third party (i.e. have a coach register participants). This will require an active 2021-22 USA Rugby membership, which is not a new requirement, course participants have always needed active memberships to take courses.

The USA Rugby Learning Center is intended to launch in November this year, with forthcoming information on access and content soon to be shared.
