Men's Division I:
What was predicted to be one of the best games of the weekend, certainly did not disappoint, as the Austin Blacks took down Dallas Rugby in a 41-34 thriller. The Blacks hit the lead early through Chris Ingate, before five points to both Blake Boulton and Jake Campey saw the claim their first lead of the game. Both teams traded tries, before two penalties saw the Blacks take a 18-15 lead into the half. The second half was a completely different story, as the Reds came out flat and conceded 23 unanswered points in the first 35 minutes of the second half. A late yellow card to the Blacks gave them a scare, as the Reds scored 3 tries in 5 minutes to bring the margin to within seven, but it was too little too late and the Blacks won the first leg of the fixture.
In the other match, the Austin Huns scored 26 unanswered in the final 20 to whisk the game away from the Dallas Harlequins and claim win number three on the year.
Men's Division II:
A quiet weekend of action for men's Division II. Dallas Rugby D2 was able to get one back over the Austin Blacks, beating their D2 side 38-24. Dallas started the game off on a 24-point streak, with open side flanker, Marquale Pierson scoring two tries. The Blacks answered, but they weren't able to hold off the Reds' fiery attack. Two late tries brought the scoreline back to a more respectable reading, but it wasn't going to be enough to dig themselves out of their hole.
The Austin Huns D2 were mightily impressive in their 104-0 win over the Dallas Harlequins D2. Standing out in the win was number eight, Sean McFadden who scored 19 points in the space of 16 minutes.
In Houston a fierce rivalry etched another chapter over the weekend, as Houston Athletic and Houston United went into battle. For HURT it was a day to forget, as HARC got the early advantage and never looked back. Scoring 26 points unanswered in 41 minutes, HARC came out of the gates firing. Tom Sargent was the driving force behind HARC's victory, with the strong number eight crossing for a double. They were further aided by the loyal boot of Rory Gleeson, who was slotting conversions all day. This now marks three wins on the trot for HARC, who previously had lost three in a row.
