Men’s Division I:
After a tough loss to the Austin Blacks last week, Dallas Rugby took their frustration out on San Antonio Rugby, 116-5. The Reds had six total players score ten or more points on the day. Leading the troupe was flyhalf Blake Boulton, who finished with a tally of 21 points; followed closely by Jake Campey with 19 and Jonny Heron with 17.
The Austin Blacks, remain undefeated after handing the West Houston lions a 69-36 loss. The game appeared as though it would be a close contest, as after 11 minutes the scoreline read 12-7. However, in the next fifteen minutes, the Austin Blacks would score 31 unanswered to lead 43-7 and take any wind out of West Houston’s sails. They clawed back, but they could not score any points without Austin immediately returning the favor.
Men’s Division II:
Dallas Athletic (DARC) won a shootout against Dallas Harlequins D2, 50-45. DARC held an impressive 35-17 lead just after half time, but two tries in as many minutes and three in the space of eight saw the once secure lead shrink to only two points. The two sides drew level in the 65th minute when a try to James Lewison of the Harlequins brought the score to 38 apiece. DARC wasted no time in reobtaining their lead crossing over in the 66th minute. The ties were brought level once again in the 70th minute when the Harlequins dotted down. The final blow as struck a minute into stoppage time, when Phillip Hughes crossed for DARC to secure the win.
Austin Blacks D2 survived a close one against Fort Worth, winning 19-15. Two tries in the first half to fullback Preston Weigel, helped establish a 12 point lead, which proved to be critical in seeing the Blacks D2 hold on to win the match.
San Marcos after beating the West Houston Lions, 68-19, are keeping the pressure on the pool leading Houston United. Will Burns got a triple, while Jon Price and Jeff Easthagen both had doubles.
Men’s Division III:
Galveston Rugby secured their third win in a row, after an impressive display against Bay Area Rugby, 68-26. It was an even affair for the first 20 minutes, with the two teams being locked at 14 apiece a quarter of the way through the fixture. Things changed shortly after with Galveston running in 33 unanswered points in as many minutes. Bay Area showed plenty of fight never giving up, but Galveston’s constant bombardment on attack proved too much for them to keep up with.
