A multi-sport athlete successful in football at Provo High School, Maka Unufe was quick to make a name for himself when he transitioned to rugby. As a standout athlete for the Utah Warriors during the 2011 Club 7s National Championships, Unufe immediately fell onto the national team radar and earned a selection to the 2011 Pan American Games, helping the USA clinch Bronze.

The next year, Unufe made his first HSBC World Sevens Series appearance at the 2012 Wellington Sevens tournament where he cemented himself as a high-scoring machine on the pitch.

In 2015, Unufe helped the United States clinch another Bronze at the Pan American Games in Toronto. He added to his list of achievements in 2016 when he was selected to Team USA's 12 man roster for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. More than 12 years following his sevens debut, Maka remains at the top of the game and earned a selection to the Paris Olympic squad in 2024.
