Friends,

As 2019 comes to a close, we at USA Rugby want to wish everyone a Happy New Year and forward a message of appreciation to our members this past year. 2019 was a benchmark year in so many ways. From all too real challenges to measurable progress, we’re optimistic for Rugby in this great country heading into a new Olympic year.

Lots to look back on as Rugby World Cup 2019 brought our game into the international spotlight, the Men’s and Women’s Eagles Sevens booked tickets to Tokyo and the Women’s Eagles made the community proud as global hosts of the Women’s Super Series. I want to thank our passionate and competitive members for their commitment to the National Championship Series in 2019 as our Fall and Spring Championships reached new levels in participation. With these athletes and devoted volunteers, our youth have bright aspirations on which to write their own rugby story.

With reflection comes some hard truths, and as 2019 reveals a decline in registered members despite growth in new players, the importance for participant retention again proves inherent.

Significant change awaits USA Rugby in in 2020 as the union and its stakeholders embark on a reorganization of resource and responsibilities. With enthusiasm and commitment, we truly believe in the resiliency of the rugby community and its ability to administer growth. As this essential and overdue process begins, we look forward to constructive feedback and support of the American rugby community.

Wishing you and your families a very Happy New Year, a sincere thank you for your support in 2019 and continued allegiance to the sport of Rugby.

Sincerely,
Ross Young, CEO USA Rugby
